Beginning in 1990, and now the longest running bullion program by the Perth Mint, the Kookaburra coin program sees a new artistic design every year. The Kookaburra is Australia's most well-known native bird species, so its no surprise this coin is a top-seller every year.
The 2022 Australian Kookaburra design is a reminder of the chortling creature’s flourishing presence in suburban neighbourhoods. The design portrays the regular visitor perched on an ornamental bird bath among Agapanthus, flowering plants regularly seen in Australian gardens. Also on this side includes the inscription 'KOOKABURRA', the year 2022, metal type and the Perth Mint security feature 'P' mintmark.

The reverse of coin portrays a kookaburra perched on an ornamental bird bath among Agapanthus, flowering plants regularly seen in Australian gardens. Together with the coin’s rims and serrated edge, the bird is superbly gilded in 24-carat gold. Also in the design is The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark
The obverse of the coin features the Jody clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the monetary denomination.
