The Australian Government approved the minting of platinum and silver coins on June 18, 1987. Hence, by September 1988, the Mint released the nation’s first Platinum Koala coin.

Coin Highlights:

The obverse side depicts the right facing profile of Queen Elizabeth II, along with the year and face value.
On the other hand, reverse depicts a mother Koala and her Joey on her back while perched on a eucalyptus tree. Coin also displays the weight and purity.
No more than 12,000 of the Australian 1/2oz Platinum Koala First 1988 Proof coin in wooden box will be issued.
